The local Foodie Project

Low attendance in traditional restaurants

2012

Brief

Increase attendance, inspire great word of mouth, turn a Meet-Up into a movement. At the time, the Foodie culture of Montreal was limited to traditional dining experiences and rare food labs by inspired chefs in museums. My idea was to make the entire dining experience the experience, for intro level foodies with modest incomes.

What I Did

Conceived of a fully immersive where diners are brought to a farm where the highlight of the meal comes from and, capitalising on the growing slow food/100 mile movement, the other ingredients are sourced within a 100km radius. The menu is not only seasonal but also influenced by what farmers at the settling of Quebec would have eaten. Guests then left with a CSA bag of farm-fresh produce & local cheese.

Results

Sold out experiences from the pilot. By teaching the organisers how to create an experience around the food instead of making the food the star, they went on to create experiences with themes such as "biodome eating", mason jar marketplace and uncheese parties at organic wine vineyards. They are now the authority in food experiences in Montreal, with artisanal and corporate clients.

the boutique hotels

project

Introduced technology that creates comfort and increases profits.

2005

Brief

I approached a boutique hotel group to introduce a concept to increase sales, create stand-out word of mouth & reviews and improve return rates for business & vacation guests.

What I Did

Created an "unexpected delight" strategy to keep business guests closer to the hotel, using the services and feeling as close to home as they needed.

The idea capitalised on the growing ubiquity of iPods, offering speaker docks and/or preprogrammed iPods to guests at booking (or on request). We'd add a simple checkbox and dropdown to the booking process enabling a guest to borrow a dock or rent an iPod. Guests who rented an iPod were also asked for up to 5 songs. iPods were preprogrammed with popular genres chosen from the dropdown and the selection of their own songs (delivered by SemperHiFi) would already be playing softly when the guest arrived in their room, as if they were just coming into another room of their home.
This would be the unexpected delight that laid the foundation for behavioural cues that encouraged guests to stay closer to the hotel, increasing use of concierge services, room service, the restaurant, bar, and/or boutique in the lobby. These cues included placement of the WiFi password, the menu, the concierge service number (on a card that offered a complimentary drink from the bar delivered to the room, removing the complimentary single-serving champagne from the room). The savings from no longer offering free "split" bottles itself would pay for the iPods, docks and printing.

Results

Welp, there were iPod docks in boutique hotel rooms from NY to LA so, it obviously worked :).

the content marketer project

When burnout makes you wanna burn it all down 🔥🔥🔥

2018

Brief

The marketer with over 30,000 people in their private community was burned out, resentful of the business they'd built and impatient with the people who made up the community.
